Upgrade to Vmware Data Recovery 2.0

If you use the Vmware Data Recovery appliance for backup in vSphere, you will know that versions 1.x did not have any notifications and you could never be sure if your backups were successful or not.  Data Recovery 2.0 is now available and this does include notifications so its time to get it installed.

Windows Sharepoint Services 3.0 - Cannot open any documents in sites

When you use Sharepoint you can no longer access any documents in the site, they links are available but a 404 error is displayed when trying to open the document.

Event ID 5586

When this issue occurs check the application log and if you have the event 5586 WIndows SharePoint Services then check to see if this update has been installed by WSUS or your patch management application.

If this update has been installed you will need to re run the Sharepoint Products and Technologies Configuration Wizard on your SharePoint Server.

Run the wizard

Once this has completed this will update the patch fully and restore your SharePoint WSS 3 to a working system again.

Vmware - Customizations are greyed out when trying to clone a Virtual Machine

If you are trying to clone a Windows 2003 Server in vSphere you may find the error "Windows Customizations cannot be found" when you try to clone the VM.
